These sought after delights are said to have a more refined flavor than those grown from seed. Chefs prize them for their delicious umami flavor. Their flesh is delicately pink purple and size ranges from 1 2". Grey shallots are hardy in ground in heavy freezes. They do not store as well as Dutch Red Shallots
